Chris Strike

On leaving school I joined Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole as a trainee architectural technician. I attended Cornwall College on a day release basis, gaining both ONC and HNC in Building Studies. During my time at PBWC I worked on a variety of projects ranging from £100,000 to £17million in contract value. I prepared concept drawings, detailed designs using PowerCADD software on Apple Mac. computers. I was promoted to Assistant CAD Manager which involved maintaining the smooth running of the network, printers and software.

Projects i worked on included:

The Lifeboat College and Survival Centre, Poole, Dorset - £17million residential training centre and associated facilities for the RNLI.

Centre for Automotive Engineering and Construction Excellence - £3.6million facility at Camborne Pool Redruth College.

Surfing Centre, Fistral Beach, Newquay - £2million development combining beach facilities, shops, restaurant and exhibitions.

The Kenwyn Building, Truro College - £3.8million teaching accommodation with conference suite, IT suite, photographic unit and TV studios.

The Sunrise Centre, Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro - £2.86million purpose-built department providing state-of-the-art cancer treatment.

Learning Resource Centre, Cornwall College - £3.25million resource-based learning department, IT suite, teaching and ancillary accommodation.

Flag Cable Station, Skewjack - £5.29million cable terminal set in open countryside on the Land’s End peninsula. Overall winner of the CPRE/RIBA Cornwall Architecture Award 2002.

Six new houses, Porthleven - Production of drawings from sketch design to Building Regulations stage.

After leaving PBWC i joined Scott Hesketh Design LTD to gain more experience on smaller jobs and the Building Regulations. I worked on a range of different jobs ranging from small domestic extensions to new Pre-Schools and Gymnasiums.
I used Vectorworks CAD software on G5 Apple Macintosh computers.

I joined Robert Allen Architects in 2005 and have mainly been involved with residential projects from extensions to new houses up to £750,000, I also worked on a variety of train stations throughout Cornwall. I was involved in the design stage right through Building Regulations, detailing and site visits. I also became an accredited SAP assessor.
Unfortunately in 2009 Robert allen became ill so the oppurtunity orose for Tom and i to take over the running of the business and are moving from stenght to strength.
